House Energy & Commerce Members To Work On RFS Proposal In August

House Energy & Commerce Committee Chair Fred Upton (R-MI) and Ranking Member Henry Waxman (D-CA) have announced plans to work together during the August Congressional recess to find consensus on reforms to the federal RFS. This announcement comes after the House Energy & Commerce Subcommittee on Energy and Power spent months seeking feedback from biofuels, refiners, and livestock stakeholders, among others, on whether the RFS needs to be reformed or repealed. During the Subcommittee's recent two-day hearing, the general consensus appeared to be that there is broad support for RFS reform, but not leaving it alone or repealing it completely. Any legislative action on reform could be impacted or delayed due to the language included in EPA's recently issued final rule setting the 2013 RFS RVOs indicating that EPA expects to adjust future volume obligations through the regulatory process. More information on the two-day hearing is available online.
